Abstract

The present work aim is to formulate and evaluate floating tablets of Diltiazem Hydrochloride for its physicochemical properties and in-vitro buoyancy studies using an effervescent approach for gastro retentive drug delivery system. Diltiazem Hydrochloride effervescent floating tablets were developed direct compression technique in twelve different formulations (F1 to F12) by employing different grades of polymers and effervescent agents such as sodium bicarbonate and citric acid. Formulation F3, F6 and F9 containing HPMC K4M, HPMC K15M and Ethylcellulose showed good Buoyancy lag time of 150,132 and 170 sec. respectively and it remained float for more than 12 hr in the release medium.
