Abstract

Buccal drug delivery system has emerged as the system which avoids the first pass metabolism and increases the absorption of the drug molecule in recent years. Many researchers have shown interest in developing various forms of buccal drug delivery systems. These dosage forms include Buccal tablet, Buccal patches, gels and Buccal films. In preparing this dosage form the primary requirement is that the buccal dosage form should be adhered to the buccal mucosa; for this purpose various buccoadhesive polymers are used. This article deals with the detailed information and classification as well as various uses of the buccoadhesive polymers.
