Abstract

Captopril effervescent floating tablets were developed by employing different grades of polymers and effervescent agents such as sodium bicarbonate with an objective of achieving 24 hours floating and drug release time with optimum floating lag time. Core tablets were prepared by direct compression and coated by using various polymers by compression coating such that one side of the tablet left uncoated so that gas will generate and helps in floating. The formulations were evaluated for various physical parameters, buoyancy studies, dissolution parameters and drug release mechanism. F12 formulation showed maximum floating time of 24 hours and gave slow and maximum drug release of Captopril. The drug release was found to follow super case II transport with the zero-order kinetics.
