Abstract

Two simple, precise, accurate and economical extractive visible spectrophotometric methods were developed for the determination of Metaxolone (MET) in bulk and in tablet dosage forms have been described. The method A was based on the formation of Golden Yellow color complex with Bromo cresol green, which show maximum absorbance (λ max) at 475nm. The method B is based on the reaction of Metanil yellow with the drug to form a highly stable Orange color complex measured at 411 nm. Mean assays of method A and B was found to be 99.60% and 100.00% respectively. LOD and LOQ of method A was found to be 5.22 μg/ml and 17.41 μg/ml respectively and for method B it was 2.77 and 9.23 μg/ml. The results of analysis for both the methods have been validated statistically as per ICH guidelines. The proposed methods were simple, sensitive and economical for the quantitative determination of MET and were successfully employed for the estimation in pure and in tablet dosage forms.
