Abstract

Mushrooms are neutraceuticals which contain edible fruit body. The nutritive value of mushroom is equal to that of milk and it has low calories, sodium, fats and cholesterol. In addition to this they are rich in protein, unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin B, D, C as well as minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium. Hence, the present study was undertaken to study the growth of Pleurotus florida and Calocybe indica under controlled condition using various agrowaste as substrate. The protein, carbohydrate content, and phytochemicals were studied. The yield of milky mushroom was found to be more with sugarcane bagasse waste while the oyster mushroom showed good yield with sorghum straw and the yield was low with banana leaf waste. Milky mushroom showed higher protein, carbohydrate content.
