Abstract

Alveolar osteitis also known as dry socket is a well known complication after a tooth extraction. Surgical or traumatic extractions, some specific drugs intake and smoking are few predisposing factors for causing alveolar osteitis. Intense pain in an open unhealed extraction socket with loss of blood clot is the main clinical picture of this complication. This article presents an in depth review of alveolar osteitis to help understand and manage this complication in the best possible way.
