Evaluation of Antioxidant Potential of Ethanolic Extract of Centella asiatica L

Abstract

Antioxidants in plants are the active components which plays a shielding part in inactivating the harmful reactive oxygen. The activity of antioxidants basically depends on their capacity to chelate metal ions or scavenge free radicals. In the present study, in vitro antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of Centella asiatica (Linn) have been undergone. Antioxidant activity was studied using Reductive assay and the Free radical scavenging activity of the extract was studied against H2O2 and DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl-hydrate). The ethanolic extracts used for the study revealed good scavenging activity and the bioactives in the plant can be further evaluated for production of antioxidant drugs.
