Abstract

Resource crunch of land, water, and finance in rural India is well known. This has now become very visible resulting in loosing interest in agriculture especially by rural youths. Horticulture is becoming popular due to comparatively better returns and technologies. Improved technologies including low cost technologies for adopting horticulture by rural youths along with traditional agriculture practices have bee n emphasized in this article supported by details of technologies/innovations, success stories and empirical evidences. Prospects of horticulture in rural areas are brighter as people are becoming nutrition conscious resulting in increased consumption of horticulture produce besides better returns from horticulture crops.
