Status of research work done pertaining to seed science and technology of tropical range grasses of India is discussed with respect to their seed unit and pure seed definition, seed yielding components and various kind of seed yield, grassland management practices for seed crops, environmental requirement of seed production, seed testing protocols and seed quality parameters (Seed Standards) for seed quality assurance. Prospects of range grass seed production in India is also being discussed with an emphasis on problems in achieving higher quality seed yield.
