Role of Education in Participatory Planning

Globally, the planning process has adopted a participatory approach. In India, a participatory and consultative approach was adopted for the preparation of city development plans under JnNURM. Lack of awareness resulted in poor quality and quantity of participation and consultation. Thus, it is suggested that if a participatory and consultative approach to planning is brought in school curricula and students are made aware of the development plans, then we can have better and more meaningful participation.
