Abstract

Today, India is on its way of becoming a super power. Our education system has major contribution in the development of India in all spheres. Despite the drawbacks of this system, the education provided to students in India is of high quality. The credit can be given to the strong foundation laid down by our ancestors. Many educational reforms have taken place from time to time. In this study, the evolution of Indian education system has been discussed from ancient period to present era. Prior to 1947, the changes brought about in the education system were governed by the then rulers while post 1947, continuous efforts are being made by the Indian Government to improve the education system to a level that each and every individual has access to it. However, efforts are also required to be made by parents and teachers in order to practice Right to Education Act in true sense.
