This paper has been designed to construct and standardize Parenting Style Scale to assess the four types of parenting style (i.e. Democratic, Autocratic, Permissive and Uninvolved) in Indian context. Different steps were followed to develop and standardize this scale such as first try-out, second try-out, scoring, item analysis, final form of the scale, standardization of the scale and norms for interpretation of raw scores. Initially, 75 items (both in English & Hindi versions) were written for the entire scale. The first draft of 75 items was given to 25 experts belonging to the fields of Education, Psychology, Sociology and Language to check the language efficiency, relevancy and ambiguity of the items if any. Keeping in view the suggestions given by them, a few items were deleted and other few items were slightly modified to make the items more easily identifiable. Depending upon the unanimity among the experts, 60 items were retained for second draft. In order to determine the applicability and homogeneity of the items, the second draft was administered to a randomly selected sample of 105 students from the secondary and senior secondary schools and also colleges situated in Haryana. Final selection of the items was made on the basis of t-test computation. Only those items were retained which were found significant either at 0.05 level or 0.01 level. Out of 60 items, 44 items which were found significant either at 0.05 or 0.01 level, were retained for the final form of the scale and remaining 16 items which were not found significant were rejected from the scale. Reliability of the scale was measured by Test-Retest method (0.911) and Split-Half method (0.795). Reliability for each type of parenting style was also found out through Test-Retest method (ranges from 0.712 to 0.794). The coefficient of correlation for different types of Parenting Style ranges from 0.508 to 0.819.
