Abstract

The exploitation of biomass, a renewal energy source with high potential, the energy production through gasification is an environmentally friendly solution because it provides heat, electrical energy as well as transportation fuels with less life cycle CO2 and Sulphur emission as compared to the conventional fuels. Fluidized bed gasifiers are of great importance in the present day due to good mixing, heat and mass transfer. Biomass gasification reactor for its special feature like combined heat and power (CHP) production is widely used. A non-premixed combustion model approach is used for biomass air gasification and the simulations were carried out using the FLUENT v14.0 software. The effects of Fluidising air velocity, Mass flow rate and Temperature on product gas composition were analysed. From the analysis it was found that the optimum value of air velocity should be above 0.07m/s which is the minimum fluidizing velocity of the gasifiers, for the fuel rate of 0.4kg/hr and the recommended temperature to be in the range of 800oC to 850oC.
