Crude oil consumption for transportation is about 164 MMT in India for 2014–15. Transportation section alone uses >70% of crude oil, hence car manufactures OEM's around the world are trying to reduce the fuel consumption without sacrificing performance and emission characteristics. Alternative fuels such as Biodiesel, LPG, CNG and electric vehicles are some of the methods used to reduce fuel consumption. Blend of Ethanol and Hydrogen into Diesel are carried out by many researchers, but this has not been implemented commercially. One-dimensional model of the engine is created in Ricardo-WAVE. Simulations are performed for combination of two fuel blend (D-E, D-H and E-H) in the present study. Engine power, torque, CO and NOX characteristics are estimated for the range of engine speed 1000 to 5000 rpm. Results shows that it is possible to achieve the blend of two fuel in one-dimensional model environment. There is no reduction in engine performance for the tested blend ratios. D-E blend has performance improvement of 32% and reduction of CO and NOX emissions by 31 and 38% respectively.
