Abstract

Transportation section alone uses >70% of crude oil, the diesel vehicle manufacturers are under pressure to discover methods to meet the reduced dependence on fossil fuels at legal required engine emissions. Use of Alternative fuels such as Biodiesel, LPG, CNG and electric vehicles are some of the methods used to reduce fuel consumption. Blend of Ethanol and Hydrogen into Diesel are carried out by many researchers, but this has not been implemented commercially. To reduce the fuel consumption, one dimensional model of single cylinder engine with supply of three fuel blend (D-E-H) using Ricardo Wave has been attempted in the present work. Engine power, torque, CO and NOx characteristics are estimated for the range of engine speed 1000 to 5000 rpm. Results shows that it is possible to achieve the blend of three fuel in one-dimensional model environment. There is no reduction in engine performance for the tested blend ratios. Performance improvement of 26% and reduction of CO and NOX emissions by 96.5 and 42% respectively was achieved for fuel blend combination of D55-(E65-H35).
