Prediction of Submerged Arc Welding Process Parameters in Low Carbon Steel Joints Through Grey Relation Analysis

Abstract

Controlling metal transfer modes in Submerged arc welding (SAW) is essential. For both ’Purging ’and ‘as weld ’conditions, It is attempted here to studied the influence of various SAW weld parameters including Nozzle to Plate Distance (NPD,) Welding Speed (WS), Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) and Wire Feed Rate (WFR) are studied. The process parameters were optimized through grey relation analysis. The obtained results indicated that lower OCV and higher levels of WFR, WS and NPD is the best combination for minimization of Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and high percentage of dilution in both and ‘Purging ’and ‘as weld ’conditions. The developed models are adequate and found within the limits through confirmation tests.
