From last few decades presence of heavy metal is the cause of concern for the environmentalist. High solubility in water, long dwelling period, non-biodegradable nature etc. of heavy metals permit them to enter in food chain. To reduce the amount of heavy metals a number of physical and chemical methods are accessible. Recently bio-adsorbents are drawing the attention of the researchers in the green remediation of heavy metals. To understand the adsorption behavior of a plant it is essential to know about its phytochemistry. In present study the phytochemical screening of basal plate of Allium Cepa L. has been carried out for the removal of heavy metal from waste water. Phytochemical screening results evidenced the presence of tannin, flavonoids etc. in the basal plate of Allium Cepa L which signifies the high potential of basal plate of Allium Cepa L to use as a potential low cost bio-adsorbent for the waste water treatment.
