Abstract

Culture plays a pivotal and central role in the definition and transmission of the ideas, beliefs, habits, and practices held by individuals who share a similar cultural context, shaping not only their identities but also the nature of their relationships with others. Among the many cultural practices, marriage traditions stand out as a particularly significant domain deeply influenced by the specific cultural context in which they are embedded. For instance, in collective cultures, such as that of India, where strong and extensive kinship networks hold a substantial degree of influence over an individual’s choices and decisions, the process of selecting a marital partner is profoundly shaped by these cultural dynamics. In the context of these cultural perspectives, this paper endeavours to explore and unravel the intricacies of the marriage system within the Bonda Tribe of Odisha, drawing insights and information from secondary sources to shed light on this fascinating aspect of their culture.
