Abstract

Higher education institutions also serve as research and innovation centers, driving entrepreneurship and industrial expansion through academic-industry collaborations. Universities commercialize scientific discoveries and stimulate job creation and economic diversification, particularly in knowledge-intensive sectors. Experiential learning methodologies, such as internships in engineering, case-based pedagogy in business, and clinical training in medical education, further strengthen human capital development, ensuring that graduates possess the skills required for evolving labor markets. The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) represents a significant overhaul of the Indian education system, promoting holistic learning and critical thinking and enhancing students’ employability. However, despite these reforms, challenges such as limited seats, high cut-offs, and reservation policies push many students to explore global options for better opportunities; the lack of international exposure and restricted access to quality education persist, which studying abroad can mitigate by providing Indian students with unique opportunities to gain a global perspective on education and overcome the limitations of a rigid, rote-based system.
