Abstract

The ongoing demographic changes are likely to contribute to an ever increasing size of labour force in the country. A population “bulge” in the working age groups, however large the total population, is seen as an inevitable advantage characterized as a "demographic dividend". Economist focused on the size of population and the growth of the country, but the composition of age structure of population was not considered until the study of Coale and Horver. Hence, in this background it is interest to study the demographic dividend and employment of India and Andhra Pradesh. In case of Andhra Pradesh it was 53.8 percent which good single for WPR to economy. Most of the workforce of the state is engaged in those activities which do not require any specific skills. Moreover a large part of the workforce is engaged in informal sector. In this respect, the best approach towards Plan is to adapt necessary policy measures such as improving skill development of illiterate and semiliterate workforce and initiating social security benefits to workforce in informal sector.
