Abstract

Over the last few decades there has been a greater study about the concept of development, including not only basic indicators like economic growth or production, per capita income, but also incorporating factors currently considered essential for all spheres of development and adopt as a complex process involving different fields and characteristics. The dimensions of development are extremely diverse, including economical, social, political, technological (including the sciences, engineering and communications), the environment, religion, the arts and culture. Economic growth is one of the important components of economic development. But it is not only economic growth; it means social-cultural growth also. In this regard Economic Development means quantitative and qualitative change in the economy. This paper is basically a discussion about the development and change in economic condition of Scheduled Caste community, those who are lives in Bagalia village of Purulia district (West Bengal). Implementation of various development programmes introduced by Central or State Government influence the economic condition of this village. The main objective is to study the pace of economic development and change in Scheduled Caste people of this village.
