Abstract

Availability of skilled manpower is essential for India to achieve its recently launched ambitious mission -"Digital India" program and sustain a higher growth level in the future. Naturally the quality of manpower influences on the success or failure of any programs. India is known as country of young people with median age of population being at 24.6 years & one-third of the population is below 14 years of age. By 2020, India will remain one of the youngest countries with 25 % of world's workforce. Even though it is having such a huge manpower, only 2% of its organized workforce is skilled. If the country can able to channelize its vast Human Resource potential in the right direction, then India will becomes the Global Talents hub. So, it is the need of the hour to prepare the manpower with the right skills which are required for the jobs of today and those of tomorrow, that will becomes a strategic tool in the national growth and in realizing its ambitious programs. In this direction, the Govt. of India has launched "Skill India", a multi-skill development programme, for providing training & skill development to over 500 million youth across the country, to ensure the availability of competent workforce to one more ambitious umbrella Programme -"Digital India", to transform India into a digitally empowered society and a knowledge economy. The logic behind this mission is to make ICT a key enabler for transformative change in the delivery of public services, participative governance in the country & to bridge the divide between digital "haves" and "have-nots".
