Women's empowerment and economic development are interrelated. Empowering women will accelerate our economy and reversely growth in our economy will make women of this country empowered but overall it wouldn't be wrong to say that women can contribute a good percentage in our economic development and also rural development of the Country. Inequality on the basis of the region is dominant in India and rural area contributes large portion. Women in rural can contribute a lot in development of rural areas and thus the country and it is dependent on development activities. Ironically women empowerment is still misapprehension in reality as in daily life we come across thousands of cases where women is a victim of social issues. The study proves that Indian women are still disempowered and they have somewhat lower status than that of men in spite of many efforts taken by our Government. Therefore, to conclude efforts needs to be taken by government and individuals to empower women by education, socially, mentally and helping them grow by development activities. India being a democratic country, Gender equality is a human birth right but unfortunately society is not being fair . Empowering women is also an essential instrument for advancing development and reducing poverty. The objective of this research paper is to comprehend the root cause of women problem and outlook of Women Empowerment, and attempt to examine the status of women empowerment in India using various factors like women's decision making power, legal Policies, Role of Judiciary, poverty, unemployment and insecurity. The Governments have introduced a single self employment program i.e. Self-Help Group Program. Precisely, the self-help group is the fitting approach to empower the rural poor women who are the paradigm of rural development through eradication of rural poverty in particular and the all sided sustainable- development of the country in general.
