Abstract

Women are considered as an important aspect for the growth of economy of a country. Having dual responsibility of both home and work, women tend to encounter difficulties in these dual responsibilities. The present study is conducted to find out the differences in challenges and effects faced by women employees working in private and public sector banks in Karnataka. It also highlights on the effects of these challenges on women employees in the banks and also suggests strategies to overcome these challenges. Primary data was used to collect information. The study was conducted in two major cities of Karnataka. The cities are Mysuru and Mangaluru respectively. The usual challenges faced by women are misconception, physical and mental imbalance, lack of career planning. These challenges have effect on the working women in banks. The study found that salary discrimination, gender discrimination, denial of promotion is some of effects of the challenges faced by women working in banking sector. The outcome of the study suggested that the banking sector needs to have leadership training, mentoring, work life balance, flexi working hours, career counseling, and fair promotion strategies.
