Abstract

Approximately 80% of the Indian Dairy Industryunits are unorganized and remaining only 20% of the industry unitsare organized. In the numerical presentation the organized dairy industry, 532+ units are private dairies, 254+ units are cooperative societies and 46 units are Government dairies arepresently operational in India. So with this magnitudeof Indian Dairy Industry either organized or unorganized, thenumber of the man power employed in the industry can better be estimated and with the estimation of the number of employees a question comes into the mind that is how the employees' performance of the industry is assessed, is there any performance appraisal system in the public or private milk organization. Under the light of the questions this research work was intended to examine the awareness level of the employees' working in dairy industries of Madhya Pradesh for the performance appraisal system followed in their organizations. For the purpose of study the sampleof employees of Public milk organization (Bhopal SahakariDugdha Sangh Maryadit) and Private Milk Organization (Anik Industries Limited) was chosen for assessing their level of awareness for PAS. The sample size of the study was 300 employees, 150 employees from each participatedmilkorganization of different designations and demographic attributes. With the help of statistical analysis performed over the dataset accumulated from the responses given from the employee respondents, it was observed that income, job grade, frequency of appraisal received and educational qualification as demographic variables affect the level of awareness for the PAS.
