Abstract

With the advancement in the field of medicine and factors like increasing longevity combined with declining fertility trigged the unprecedented rise of elderly population across the world. Moreover in the recent time the world has experienced a phenomenal growth in the share of the female elderly population too, which is called as the feminization of ageing.Focusing on such changing pattern of the demography of India society the present paper seeks to understand the quality life of ageing population of our society from the gendered perspective. It is not only important to live long, but to live well. The nature of the present study is empirical, conducted in Chandannagar, under the jurisdiction of District Hooghly, West Bengal. Certain parameters have been used all through the study to understand as well as to interpret the way elderly individuals with especial mention to the gender, perceive about their overall wellbeing.
