Abstract

This paper entitled "Financial Performance of Public and Private Sector Banks in India" attempts to study financial performance of selected private and public sector banks. Study considered five years annual financial statements of the banks and same is analysis with the help of financial ratios and z-scores. The analysis revealsthat five banks under study consideration are categorized as excellent; four banks are classified as very good banks and one bank namely Central Bank of India is classified as below average performing bank. Study further discloses that performance of private sector banks is comparatively batter in terms of Spread Ratio. The analysis also accomplishes that State Bank of India’s performance was below average, Bank of Baroda and Bank of India performance was classified under poor category. In terms of Management Efficiency ratio, the study divulges that majority of public sector banks performance was found to be excellent. On the basis of analysis, Balance sheet Ratio and Debt Coverage Ratio concludes that performance of the all the banks under study where classified under average category.
