In today’s world, handloom sector has plays an important role in India’s economy. This sector also occupies its importance in socio cultural traditions. Afteragriculture, handloom production is the 2nd largest employment generating activity in the country. Now a day’s handloom is the 2nd largest handloom sector after agriculture.More and more employment has been developed through this handloom sector. This sector is having the facilities of minimum utilisation of capital and power, friendly environment and fulfils the market requirements. But till date, this handloom sector is facing more problem than other industries. Still handloom industries struggles for their sustenance through using traditional methods of production, lack of knowledge about latest technology, less awareness about designs and requirements.The Government of India is the eye opener for the development and marketing of handloom products in India. In Make in India campaign 25 sectors of the world economy, was launched by the Government of India in 2014 to motivate the companies to produce their products in India through Swadeshi Movement Scheme. ‘Make in India campaign covering 25 sectors, including the textiles and garments. Handloom, being a major sub-sector of Indian Textiles Industry, plays an important role in Indian economy.It is necessary to find out the handloom industries’ problems as well as strengths and weaknesses and how to overcome this situation and make them profitable one. Therefore, there is a need to make handloom tradition fashionable by introducing new designs and colour schemes, so that it can find a reference place in global industry.
