The rich scholarly Indian culture existing for centuries has always been sparged with spiritual thinking that became essence of all knowledge and way of life in India. Spirituality went through different connotations with different perspectives, gaining prominence in different times of evolving society. In its true essence spiritual thinking is an intrinsic human capacity for transcendence and magnanimity leading to transformation and perfection of finer human abilities (Zohar and Marshall, 2000). In this post materialistic time such abilities have become very significant for well being of human beings and their thriving and meaningful life (Diener, Lucas and Oishi, 2002).Neurological researches have given evidence of neural basis of spiritual thinking in human beings giving it a place under umbrella of intelligence. This assertion also finds support from ancient Indian philosophy and puts wide implications for education that prepares an individual to work towards his optimum development. The vital features of Spiritual intelligence that are relevant for all stakeholders in education are discussed with a view to make this ability a focal point while discussion and framing of new education policy for sustainable development of nation and unleashing of the edge giving ability in human beings.
