Abstract

The Former President Dr.APJ Abdul kalam said that "Empowering Women is a prerequisite for creating a good nation, when women are empowered, society with stability is assured. Empowerment of Women is essential as their thoughts and their value systems lead to the development of a good family, good society and ultimately a good nation". In this context, the authors have attempted to analyses the study empowerment by SHGs in Sivagangai dist. The study shows that younger and middle aged women are more participating in SHG with high school education level and with nuclear family structure. it is found that financial reasons and mutual help are the prime reasons to join the SHG as member. The prime force behind joining as member SHG are self and family forces. Due to political reasons and work pressure the members in SHG in Sivagangai dist. Are confronting with various problems the study further reveals that socio and economic development are the main benefit on public utilities services has improved as a member in SHG. The Present study highlights that opinion level of member on various parameters like social empowerment, community based development participation in Panchyat raj system is high and moderate hence the SHG scheme must be strengthened to improve the women Empowerment in Sivagangai dist in particular and the whole of India in General.
