Abstract

Apparel, clothing, outfit, attire or dressing has long been an integral part of our personality. For some it is a simple choice made every single day and for many it sets the day rolling. From being an enabler to create the positive first impression (Barnard, 2002) to the psychological impact of clothing on the wearer, much has been presented in past research observations.

Nevertheless, the present day work from home or online classroom scenario and rising video calls has added to the complexity to the voluminous research findings on impact of apparel on an individual’s self perception. Fresh perspectives with regards to choice of apparel and how one feels about oneself have evolved in this era of Zoom Online Classrooms.

The paper thus investigates the impact of apparel categories of post graduate students while studying in online classrooms on their self perception. The study analysed data collected from 101 management students. Emerging trends and patterns have been presented in the findings. The results of the study shall have implications for students and administration of higher education. In this era of remote learning, it is vital to understand the role played by apparel categories in shaping students’ perception of self. Additionally, the findings shall benefit the work from the home community at large. Having known the influence that apparel can have on a wearer, in remote work or work from home scenario, it could impact the way individuals shop and dress themselves for online working platforms.
