Abstract

The aim of the present study is to examine the factors that motivate the consumers to spend at flea markets. The study was conducted among the footfalls present at the Sunday Bazar flea market of old Delhi (India). Flea markets attract different classes of people, with different interests, income level and taste for buying branded as well as uncustomary items. Second hand goods at minimum possible prices are the main attraction of flea markets. Second hand shops, street vending and swap markets are the other terms which are used for flea markets. To understand the shopping behaviour of buyers and to examine their level of awareness, consumer respondents were asked to opine about their preference for brands, are they shopping because of bargain facility, whether they asked for cash receipt, guarantee privileges etc. while shopping at flea market. Against such a backdrop, an attempt has been made to study the factors that motivate the footfalls to spend at flea markets. For this purpose, a convenience sample of 100 footfalls present at Old Delhi-Sunday Bazar flea market were interviewed by the enumerator with the help of a structured schedule during the month of September-October, 2021.
