Abstract

Academic staff, including the officers of the universities, play a very important role in the day to day administration of the university. Thus, their effective and timely performance helps the universities to understand their present positions and it also helps the universities to frame and coordinate the desired training programmes. In this study, an attempt has been made to find out the system of performance appraisal of the academic staff in West Bengal universities. In this study, the recruitment, performance appraisal, promotion, CAS, compensation and training of the staff are discussed. Both primary and secondary data have been collected after administering a structured questionnaire. For having sustainable growth of the universities, employees will have to perform timely and effectively.
