Leaders in small or medium organisations in India are not chosen by any scientific models or procedures. Largely they are selected either by their age or inheritance. Although there is very limited research on leadership choosing pattern, some theories are in favor of choosing on basis of qualitative attributes only, ignoring the value of quantitative aspects. To see a test result of blending the qualitative and quantitative aspects in choosing the leader for the MSME sector, the Brown and Gibson's’ model is used here, which is otherwise applicable in plant location selection. In this year long experiment, two self-help groups were taken as samples to test the effects of the model. The result of this experiment highlights the possibility of model usage in identifying the leader who can make a positive contribution to the group performance both in profitability as well as other qualitative changes pushing forward the group's sustainability in the market.
