Communication is conveying of information, ideas, facts, thoughts, feelings, values, knowledge, from one party to another and process by which people share meaning and create understanding through transmission of messages. At each level of communication in encoding, decoding, sending, receiving, and propagating, the message, there are hurdles which decrease the effectiveness of communication, considered as weakness and some opportunities which smoothen the communication process increasing efficiency, considered as strength. Jamshedpur is a major industrial hub of east India, housing giant companies like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, BOC, JUSCO and so on. This study examines in detail that the nature and content of communication within Jamshedpur based organisations is influenced by factors of management and employees and aspect of communication which deal with the related strengths and weaknesses. The study is an exploratory research. For study purpose, the total sample size from different industries has been taken which consists of 100 officers, 150 supervisors, and 250 workers on random sampling basis. Information collected from respondents’ answers/opinions, called as feedback have been analysed critically. Data collection is done by observation, informal interview and discussion with employees also, but mainly by formal interview using questionnaires of 40 different questions. Finally, data have been represented through various tables. Theoretically, data is categorised in two parts, negative aspects (weakness) and positive aspects (strength) which jointly regulate the total effectiveness of organisational communication.
