Management education in India is now booming and has earned a considerable share in market. This has resulted in a number of management institutions being established in the past decade. However, only few of them have been able to provide qualitative, employable management graduates. About 3858 Business Management Colleges in the country generate more than one lakh MBA graduates every year. Out of them, only 23% young management professionals are employable as per a study of NASSCOM.
To keep pace with economic changes of the present times, the management education system in India is undergoing complete transformation. The complexities and uncertainties emerging in the corporate world necessitates a responsive management education, which on one hand can recognise changing marketing forces due to globalisation and on the other should incorporate the concerns of the society and environment. Obviously, the need of the hour is that, all B-Schools not only diversify their programmers to match the current needs but also make rapid strides in terms of qualitative improvements in the area of social and economic entrepreneurship, corporate social responsibility and then disseminate knowledge and delivery system in this area accordingly. This paper highlights the status of the present Business Schools in India. The paper is presented with a view to suggest an improvement in the Business Schools and management education.
