Abstract

Social recruitment is the one of the recent trends in recruitment practices to attract the quality talent. The study aims to investigate the reasons of usage of social media, to study the perception of job seekers towards social media activities, to determine the most popular social media used for job search, and to investigate the association between the demographic variables and the usage of social media for job hunting. The sample size for the study consists of 100 respondents out of which 23 are currently employed and 77 are either unemployed or students. Regarding the reasons for the usage of social media, the first rank was assigned to networking followed by making friends and job search was assigned third rank. The findings of the study revealed that Facebook is preferred in terms of the most used social media for job search. It was also found that usage of social media for job hunting is not significantly related to candidate's age, gender, marital status, employment status, work experience, and whether the candidate is an active or a passive job seeker; however, it is significantly related to the educational qualification of the candidates.
