Abstract

The main objective of this study is to explore the challenges facing prospective TVET graduates in practical skills acquisition in North Shewa Zone Amhara Region. Education which is mainly to lead participants to acquire the practical skills, know how. The education sector has the greatest responsibility to contribute to the development and training of a skilled workforce, and thereby contribute to national development. To undertake, the study a descriptive research design employed, among the TVET colleges taken as the subjects are: Debre Birhan Poly Technic, Deneba, Shewa Robit, Alemketema and Ataye TVET Colleges were purposively selected out of the 10th TVET colleges in the Zone. From all departments of the five TVET colleges 251 graduating students were randomly selected out of 1501 total populations based on their attendance sheet (every 3rd and 4th students in the departments in each college). In addition, all final year/graduating/class trainers were included in the study as a sample. Different data gathering instruments were employed these are interview, questionnaires and personal observation. The questionnaires are tested and approved under the pilot study. Data are collected from both trainers and trainees. The analysis and implications are given in financial resources, physical facilities, school enterprise linkage, awareness and attitude, teaching learning process perspectives.
