Performance appraisal is a very important and essential aspect of Human Resource Management. Performance Appraisal of the Faculty Members of the universities are very essential for the timely, systematic development of the universities. In this study an attempt has been made to find out the different types of Performance Appraisal System prevailing in the Central Universities of the North-East India. North-Eastern India is a less developed part of India. Thus, development and growth of the universities are very important for this region. All the central universities are more or less following the UGC Guidelines in framing the Performance Appraisal System for their faculty members. But analytical study has indicated certain differences in the Appraisal System. To conduct this study both Primary and secondary data is collected from the different stakeholders of these central universities. UGC from time to time is setting different performance appraisal systems and mechanism. These universities have their own geographical, demographical, political, cultural issues while assessing the performance of the faculty members. Satisfaction of the faculty members plays very important role in this area. Different universities do unnecessary delay in appraising the performance of the faculty members thus giving birth to dissatisfied faculty members. UGC's regulations are honoured in this universities.
