The effect of climate change due to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has adversely impacted the environment. The increased pollution emission due to fossil fuel consumption necessitates a change in the energy consumption policy from traditional fossil fuel to renewable energy (RE) because it minimises GHG emission and has a much lower impact on the environment. This study aims to address the future of RE in India. Methodology used sample size was 67 respondents in and around Kolkata. The questionnaire includes demographic data, that is, gender, age, education, employment, income and interest of implementation. The statistical analysis shows overviews of the respondents interested to use RE but restricted due to lack of awareness and its benefits. Local governments can reduce their carbon footprint by directly generating electricity from renewable sources. The study has found that more promotional programmes are essential to raising awareness of the people. Working in states across the country is crucial for making progress toward our climate and RE goals. The local/state government needs to improve its transmission method that changes people’s view of RE not only eco-friendly but also sustainably.
