Abstract

Civilisation is the collective efforts of human being towards development. Development depends on robust knowledge in all the field of human activities like mathematics, science and commerce etc. Any civilisation and its presence are verified with ample examples of a rich knowledge system. Like other civilisation in the world, Indian or Indus civilisation is the oldest civilisation ever existed in the world history. It indicates rich cultural, artistic and scientific endowment that itself developed and redeveloped during the passage of time and conditions. Knowledge when encompasses different processes becomes a system which is converted into a practice and way of living of the humanities concerned with the particular societies. So do with the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). It is a repository of millions of theory and associated practices and experiments that leads the Indian subcontinent to the modern stage of civilisation as seen today. To travel this long journey, one thing is very imperative that is ‘innovation’. Because without innovation nothing in the world can survive a long history. In this paper I try to evaluate the role of IKS in fostering innovation.
