There has been a great thrust in recent years to incorporate Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into the country’s educational system, particularly post the emphasis laid by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Even though policy-level support exists, successfully integrating subjects like Vedic Mathematics, Yoga, and Ayurveda into the contemporary education system poses significant challenges. This research investigates these challenges and seeks to understand how technology can bridge the divide between the old and new pedagogical models. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study used structured questionnaires with teachers and students and qualitative analysis of policy reports like the NEP 2020 and UGC guidelines. The major barriers that have been identified include poor teacher training, curriculum integration issues, language issues, and resistance based on culture. The research suggests a technology-driven solution as critical and recommends AI-based translation software for IKS documents, creation of immersive digital content on platforms such as SWAYAM, and improved training for teachers to deliver IKS material effectively. This work provides actionable suggestions for educators, policymakers, and technologists to develop an education system that maintains cultural heritage while adopting contemporary digital tools.
