Systematic Literature Review on the Role of IT in Indian Knowledge Systems

A vast and varied collection of traditional knowledge covering fields like medicine, agriculture, architecture, philosophy, and languages is represented by Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS). However, these systems face increasing dangers of marginalisation due to poor documentation, lack of accessibility, and minimal interface with modern platforms. This study conducts a systematic literature review to investigate how Information Technology (IT) can act as a catalyst in maintaining, renewing, and distributing IKS in the modern day. Through a comprehensive evaluation of scholarly works spanning IT deployment in governance, education, and public sector innovation, the research finds important enablers such as cultural alignment, infrastructural preparation, and leadership support. The findings highlight a huge research need in the creation of IT frameworks specifically intended for traditional knowledge systems. The assessment concludes with a plea for context-sensitive, participative, and inclusive IT models that preserve the integrity of indigenous knowledge while increasing its relevance and reach in the digital era.
