Abstract

Rural tourism is important for sustainable development, cultural preservation, and economic growth. With the rise of digital platforms, the tourism industry has changed, making it easier for remote rural areas to connect with global travellers. This paper looks at how digital technologies, such as social media, travel apps, virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI), help promote and improve rural tourism. Digital platforms have changed marketing strategies. They allow people in rural tourism to reach a larger audience through online campaigns that are cost-effective. Social media sites like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube help local businesses show off their unique culture, landscapes, and traditions to attract visitors. Online travel agencies (OTAs) like Airbnb and TripAdvisor make travel planning easier and offer tailored experiences for tourists looking for rural adventures. Technologies like VR and augmented reality (AR) give virtual previews of rural destinations, which helps travellers make better decisions. Digital payment systems and e-commerce help local businesses make money from tourism services. AI-powered chatbots and smart assistants improve visitor experience by offering real-time help and recommendations. However, there are challenges like low digital literacy, poor infrastructure, and resistance to new technology in rural areas. Policymakers and local stakeholders need to work together to improve digital access, provide training, and promote sustainable tourism. This study shows that digital platforms act as a bridge between rural areas and virtual experiences. They are making rural tourism more accessible, interesting, and profitable. Future research should focus on using new technologies and studying their long-term effects on rural tourism.
