Leather is a very important manufacturing product now a days. Leather science has also become a very important discipline getting more and more priority in global socio-economical background. In relation to this situation, publications of reference sources are lagging behind espeically in India. Discussions are made on the international and national organisations, institutions on leather, the basic reference sources and the treatment of leather in two important classification schemes.
