In this information society, social scientists are witnessing enormous changes in the way information is being is identified, retrieved and accessed. The developments in ICT have affected every segments of society and all levels of education. Users need to acquire new sets of skills in order to utilize the resources at learning centers. They will have to be taught how to manage their learning process to an unprecedented degree. This article identifies some of the problems faced by the social scientists and explores e-resources environment for social sciences. Brief outline about content for developing effective Information Literacy Programmes for the Social Scientists is suggested and the possible challenges in implementing the same. Article concludes by emphasizing the role played by librarians in implementing effective Information Literacy Programmes.
