Are prospects bright for librarians in the digital environment?

The article discusses the emerging digital realities – the transition of the libraries from the traditional to digital ones especially in Indian context and their impact on the librarians. Highlights the expanding role of the librarians particularly in the design and development of new information products and services and of tools to support information seeking and selection, the analysis and synthesis of information content on behalf of the users. Concludes that the librarians will continue to play an important role in the digital era if they promote themselves as information managers, information analysts and information access providers unbounded by library walls.
