Exploration of Gardner's Multiple Intelligences of Medical Professionals

The concept of Multiple Intelligences of Gardener primarily deals with the fact that intelligence is multidimensional. Today's medical professionals have to be confident in many sets of ability and suitable attitudes, which include health activist, manager, conversationalist and other new dimensions of medical practice. It is, therefore, evident that multiple intelligences are key prerequisite which facilitates physician to deal with in a multifaceted and volatile environment. This study was carried out with the objectives to know the multiple intelligences profile and its relation to personal factors of medical doctors in West Bengal. Outcomes of the investigation indicated that logical/mathematical and interpersonal were the highest multiple intelligence domains of medical practitioners. Among the rest of Gardener's eight intelligences, doctor's had a moderate level of intelligence. The outcome of multiple regression analysis showed that for medical doctors, naturalistic intrapersonal and visual/spatial intelligence were the best predictors of overall multiple intelligence. The results of the relationship between multiple intelligences and gender and age revealed that there was no significant difference between multiple intelligences and these two variables. The results of this study have feasible theoretical and practical implications.
