Influence of organizational climate on employee turnover intention in information technology industry in kerala

Abstract

Organizational climate indicates the feelings and perception of employees at the workplace. It has been gaining prominence in the literature. Turnover intention is a predictor of turnover which is a major challenge to organizations in the VUCA times. The present study attempts to find out the relationship between organizational climate and turnover intention among IT employees working in Kerala. Data were collected from 154 employees working in various IT organizations in Kerala. Organizational climate was measured by the scale developed by Litwin and Stringer (1976) and turnover intention was assessed by Michigan organizational assessment package (1975). Results revealed a significant correlation between the two variables and found a negative relationship between the two. The study while assessing the influence of organizational climate on turnover intention found that organizational climate is exerting a significant influence on turnover intention. Results also found that the level of organizational climate in IT organization is only average. The study established a significant difference in organizational climate among IT employees having different years of experience. No significant difference was found in organizational climate with respect to other demographic variables.In the case of turnover intention, the study revealed a significant difference with respect to marital status. No significant difference was found with respect to other demographic variables.
