The Indian Higher and Professional Education Sector is amongst the largest and heading towards providing quality education in the country with approximately 28.25 percent of India's population is in the age group of 1–24 years, educational sector in India provides great growth opportunity. The country has also become the second largest market for e-learning after the US. The Indian government is planning to promote the education sector to help increase the share of overall services' sector in the GDP of country. This paper tries to give light on evolution of education sector before 2019. The paper attempts to find out the higher education landscapes and recent trends, strategies and opportunities that can be leveraged to reach higher education in India to the world's number one education sector. In this article, key policies and initiatives adopted and implemented by Government of India, apex education bodies for the improvement and promotion of quality of higher and professional education is also discussed which will help educational institutions to adopt and implement.
